Anthony Joshua repeated his controversial comments about wanting to “kill” Jake Paul during a press event in Miami on Wednesday.

These statements were originally stated on Tuesday when the boxer was asked if he would hold back against Paul, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

Saturday's bout against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has drawn concern over safety concerns and the size difference between the two athletes.

Fury Calls AJ a “Disgrace”

Former titleholder Tyson Fury called Anthony Joshua a “classless loser” for his extreme language.

But Joshua, explained his position: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I'm sure many people don't understand it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. Whatever happens, happens - provided that my hand is raised, that's what's paramount, with all due respect.”

He added, “That's just the mindset we have to have as warriors. I'm unsure if other fighters think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more tame. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a dangerous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You pray your adversary leaves the ring unharmed, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Jake Paul's Fiery Response

Paul, a massive underdog in the heavyweight contest as a career cruiserweight, was no less fiery in his response.

“This is a modern day gladiator sport,” he said. “I'm prepared. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all over. We should kill each other.”

AJ will face Paul, 28, at Florida's arena in a fight many see as a significant mismatched contest, with some suggesting it should have been approved as an non-professional fight.

The official fight will be contested over 8 3-minute stanzas using standard 10oz padded gloves, with a specified weight limit for the former champion.

He Says He Was “Called In to Save” Boxing

Despite the graphic language used, Joshua claimed he has been “called in to rescue” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul phenomenon and I comprehend it and that's why I have to bear boxing on my back in this fight,” he added.

The event also had lighter moments, with Joshua laughing as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown passed without incident, with the underdog adopting a bizarre pose before the champion stayed calm and lightly touched Paul's chain.

Paul & Joshua Deny Scripted Allegations

The surreal nature of this fight has led to questions about its legitimacy, including claims that he may be prohibited from knocking Paul out.

“There's nothing in the agreement, Joshua can confirm it. We're going to battle,” Paul said.

Joshua, wearing a valuable chain, jokingly added, “The only thing in the contract that got my interest was the payment.”

He has stated on his platforms that the total purse will be extremely high.

Biggest Shock in Sport's History?

Paul first made his name as an online prankster, gathering a huge social media following.

He has not faced anyone of Joshua's pedigree but maintained that his rival would not underestimate him.

“It's a wise move on his part,” he commented. “This could potentially be, and will be, the largest defeat of his career.”

A victory for Paul would be arguably the biggest upset in the sport's history.

It would undoubtedly leave an indelible stain on Joshua's legacy, but the athlete said it would not mean retirement.

“I would come back again, move on,” he remarked. “I will be main eventing again in a year or two. It is what it is. I'm a competitor in the game.”
